weedy week – sunday

This week I made myself look for a different sort of image from my garden. It was a very good exercise and had me step outside how I typically look at what is before me and beyond my comfort zone. I picked up a little book a few years ago at a library sale, “Weeds – Guardians of the Soil” by Joseph A. Cocannouer. First published in 1950, now out of print, it illustrates the lowly weed’s place of importance in the grand scheme. Not that weeds should be allowed to grow rampant, but that they have significance beyond our imposed rank. For me, the point is that they are working and protecting the soil while my garden waits to be a garden again. Yes, they have won again this year… or are they just saying – “Let us do this while you tend to other things right now. When you are ready, so will your garden be ready. We’ve got it covered…” And in the meantime, I’ll look for the beauty in it…
